The i-Care Telemedicine App was a pivotal project aimed at addressing the healthcare challenges faced by visitors and newcomers to Canada. Recognizing the barriers these groups encounter—such as, lack of insurance, and unfamiliarity with the healthcare system; This project demonstrated how digital innovation can make a difference in people’s lives.

Problem Description

Visitors and newcomers to Canada struggle with long wait times, high costs, and navigating an unfamiliar healthcare system, leading to delayed care and poorer well-being. i-Care aims to address these challenges by providing an affordable, user-friendly telemedicine platform tailored to their needs.

The success of the i-Care Telemedicine app stemmed from a deep understanding of user pain points and the strategic integration of AI-driven solutions. By prioritizing affordability, accessibility, and ease of use, the design not only addressed critical barriers faced by newcomers and uninsured individuals but also demonstrated how technology can enhance healthcare equity. The combination of AI-powered doctor recommendations, instant consultations, and streamlined prescription services significantly improved the user experience, making healthcare more efficient and inclusive.

Research method

To design a user-centric telemedicine app, we began with user interviews and surveys to uncover the unique challenges faced by visitors and newcomers in accessing healthcare services. The insights gathered were then organized using affinity mapping, allowing us to group and analyze recurring themes, pain points, and opportunities systematically.
This method helped prioritize key issues such as affordability, accessibility, and efficiency, which informed the app's core features. By visually clustering user feedback, we gained a deeper understanding of their needs and expectations, laying a solid foundation for our design decisions.

- AI-Powered Doctor Recommendations: During the pre-consultation stage, users answer a series of questions, and the AI assistant suggests doctors who best match their needs.
- Immediate Consultations: Users can consult with a doctor instantly, eliminating the need for appointments and long queues.
- Digital Prescriptions: After consultations, users receive their prescriptions directly through the app.
- Consultation Summaries: Users get a detailed summary of their consultation, including follow-up instructions, ensuring clarity and continuity of care.

Reflections

This project highlighted the importance of designing with empathy and purpose. By addressing the unique challenges of newcomers and uninsured individuals, the i-Care app demonstrates how thoughtful UX design can bridge gaps in healthcare access, fostering trust and improving lives.
