Designing Around the Way People Live

Fresh Approach Design is a home design and renovation business offering specialized services including bespoke interior design, accessibility retrofitting, and aging-in-place architectural solutions.

The project involved designing an engaging, high-conversion website experience that presents these diverse services through a clean, welcoming, and easy-to-navigate interface. The overarching goal was to help visitors explore specialized home modification options with clarity, comfort, and confidence.

Design Philosophy: "Beautiful Homes Designed Around the Way You Live" — blending aesthetic sophistication with thoughtful universal design principles so homes support families in the years ahead.

De-Institutionalizing Accessibility Through User Research

The Core Challenge: Homeowners navigating mobility challenges or aging-in-place retrofits often feel alienated by typical accessibility websites that look clinical and institutional, diminishing customer dignity and brand trust.

Research Method: Conducted a comparative heuristic evaluation of residential renovation and universal design platforms, auditing how competitors communicated sensitive aging topics.

Key Insights: Accessibility does not mean sacrificing aesthetics. By presenting aging-in-place assessments through warm, high-end architectural imagery and reassuring guidance, clients feel empowered to take action.

Structuring Clarity Across Specialized Renovation Services

Clients seeking home renovations often experience anxiety around disruption, budget, and physical limitations. To address this, the user interface was designed with four deliberate priorities:

Clear Content Hierarchy

Structured page hierarchy allowing homeowners to quickly scan core services, Barb's design credentials, and real-world project portfolios.

Consistent Service Layouts

Unified templating across Accessibility Design, Aging-in-Place, and Interior Design ensures predictability as users explore multiple pages.

Emotional Visual Storytelling

Thoughtful imagery showcases finished renovations that look stylish and contemporary while discreetly incorporating universal accessibility.

Frictionless Consultation CTAs

Prominent "Book a Consultation" calls to action strategically placed across hero sliders, process milestones, and page footers.

Homepage Flow

Establishes emotional warmth, founder credibility, dual-pathway exploration (Interior Design vs. Aging in Place), and step-by-step process clarity.

Accessibility Hub

Highlights curbless walk-in showers, zero-threshold entryways, and ergonomic kitchen modifications that elevate home comfort without clinical aesthetics.

Aging-in-Place Deep-Dive

Focuses on proactive home assessments, lighting visibility, safety retrofits, and multi-generational flexibility for long-term peace of mind.

Seamless Developer Handoff

To ensure high fidelity between design and final web production, all Figma components were constructed with autolayout, responsive constraints, and design token annotations.
